Why your iPhone photos are blurry, and how to fix it
By Con, founder of Music Wide Selfie · Updated 22 October 2026
Short answerMost blur comes from a dirty lens, camera shake in low light, the subject moving, or focus on the wrong thing. Clean the lens, hold steady or use a stand, add light, and tap to focus.
Dirty lens
Haze and glow around lights usually means fingerprints. Wipe with a microfibre cloth.
Camera shake
In low light the phone uses slower shutter speeds. Brace your arms, use a stand, or use the timer so pressing the button doesn’t move the phone.
Moving subject
Add light so the phone can use faster shutter speeds, or use burst.
Wrong focus
Tap your subject. Hold to lock focus and exposure (AE/AF Lock).
Too close
Every lens has a minimum focus distance. Move back a little, or use macro on supported models.
Questions
Does Night mode cause blur?
Night mode takes a longer exposure. Keep the phone still until it finishes.
