Night mode selfies on iPhone
By Con, founder of Music Wide Selfie · Updated 22 October 2026
Short answerOn iPhone 12 and later, the front camera can use Night mode automatically in low light. Hold still until it finishes, light your face if you can, and avoid strong lights right behind you.
How it works
Night mode takes several images over a second or more and combines them.
Tips
- Hold very still, elbows tucked.
- Find some light for your face.
- Use a stand for the sharpest results.
Turn it off
Tap the Night mode icon and slide to Off if you want a darker, moodier shot.
Questions
Why does it take longer?
It’s collecting more light. Moving during capture causes blur.
